Pharmacy First at Kings Furlong: seven conditions we can treat

If you've got a sore throat, an earache or a suspected urine infection, you may not need to wait for a GP appointment. Under the NHS Pharmacy First service, a pharmacist at S R Pharmacy can assess you in our private consultation room and, where it's clinically appropriate, supply prescription-only treatment such as antibiotics on the spot.

The seven conditions

• Sinusitis: adults and children aged 12 and over
• Sore throat: adults and children aged 5 and over
• Earache (acute otitis media): children and young people aged 1 to 17
• Infected insect bites: adults and children aged 1 and over
• Impetigo: adults and children aged 1 and over
• Shingles: adults aged 18 and over
• Uncomplicated urine infections (UTIs): women aged 16 to 64

How it works

1. Walk in or call ahead on 01256 460390. Your GP practice or NHS 111 can also refer you to us.
2. Private consultation. We'll ask about your symptoms, your medical history and any medicines you take.
3. Treatment or advice. If you need medicine, we can supply it there and then. If you don't, we'll explain how to look after yourself, or point you to the right service if you need to be seen elsewhere.
4. Your GP is kept informed. We send a note of the consultation to your practice.

When to get help elsewhere

If you feel very unwell, or your symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, call NHS 111. In an emergency, call 999.

Common questions

Do I need an appointment? No. Pop in during opening hours (Monday to Friday 9am–6pm and Saturday 9am–5pm). Calling ahead helps on busy days.

Is it free? The consultation is free. If you need medicine, the usual NHS prescription charge applies unless you're exempt.

What if my condition isn't on the list? Come in anyway. We'll give you advice, recommend something over the counter if that's right for you, or tell you who to see.
